Dior has released 4 Sauvagecolognes so far – the EDT, EDP, Parfum, and Elixir. In today’s article, we’ll be comparing Dior Sauvage Parfum with Dior Sauvage EDP to see which is king. Let’s find out which one is best this year!
Don’t know which one to choose? After spending some time smelling and wearing both of these colognes, I’ve arrived at my own decision. So let’s compare the two shall we?

Dior Sauvage Parfum
How Does Sauvage Parfum Smell?
Dior Sauvage Parfum is one of the newer Sauvage releases. On first spray and sniff, I get a very notable citrus and subtle sandalwood smell. Unlike the EDT and EDP, there is not as much synthetic ambroxan in this one.
After Sauvage Parfum dries on the skin, I begin to smell elements of sweetness, including tonka bean and vanilla.
With that said, the sweetness is not the dominant feature – it’s the citrus and it’s definitely more present here than the EDP.
Sauvage Parfum is also heavier on the woody side with sandalwood being a dominant note, and to me, this would make the Parfum appeal to a more mature audience.
For that reason, I see this as the most sophisticated offering from the Dior Sauvage cologne line. It reminds me somewhat of Bleu De Chanel Parfum.
How Does It Perform?
The performance on this one is great. It projects well and lasts remarkably on the skin. Longevity is upwards of 12 hours, and it will project out for roughly 3 hours.
When Should I Wear It?
For us guys, Dior Sauvage Parfum can be pulled off in many settings. Date night, clubbing, casually, or even at home if you want to indulge.
I’d recommend going for the Parfum if you want the most mature and complex offering from the Sauvage cologne line. It has depth and appeals more to men over 25.

How Does Sauvage EDP Smell?
Dior Sauvage EDP was released in 2018. On first spray and smell, I get a heavy dose of the synthetic ambroxan. After it dries, I start to smell pepper and citrus . I also get small hits of lavender, vanilla, and spicy nutmeg.
When you first spray Sauvage EDP on skin, you get a heavy synthetic smell from the ambroxan.
But as it dries, it becomes mysterious and deeper, the pepper accommodating this change with the bergamot maintainin
g some freshness about it.
To me, Dior has done a great job balancing the ‘freshness’ that you want in a cologne with the ‘mysteriousness’ which draws people closer.
When Should I Wear It?
A strength of Dior Sauvage EDP is its versatility. Dior Sauvage EDP is truly an all-season, all-occasion scent.
You can wear this in hot weather, cold, and everything in between. In casual or formal situations alike, Dior Sauvage EDP is a chameleon because it adapts to the formality of the event.
How Does It Perform?
The performance of Dior Sauvage EDP is second to none. When making my judgement about performance, I consider how long it lasts on skin as well as how long it projects in the air.
Normally, it is expensive for a fragrance house to get both these qualities in a cologne, however Dior has done a good job here. Sauvage EDP lasts about 12 hours on my skin and projects out for the first 4-6 hours.
Furthermore, some people claim Sauvage EDP is a victim of its own success. What do I mean by that? Basically that its popularity means wearing it no longer makes you stand out. But I’m fine with that and I’ll tell you why soon.
Which Sauvage cologne is #1 for 2022?
Update 2022: After quite a bit of wearing of both of these colognes, my winner is – Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum. I really like this one, in fact I’m wearing it right now.
I don’t care much that the ambroxan note is synthetic – I love it, I get a lot of compliments and great performance out of the EDP.

Sauvage EDP is sexy, mysterious, and a real hit with people. The bottle presentation also fits the vibe Dior is going for. The magnetic clip-on cap is a nice touch.
If you’re new to colognes or building your collection, Dior Sauvage Eau de Parfum is about as close to ‘must-have’ as you can get.
