"If you ask me" = nếu bạn hỏi tôi -> nghĩa là theo ý kiến của tôi thì...

M�nh xem s�ch của Mat Clark c� đoạn: �ng đặt c�u hỏi:
Do you like animals?
V� �ng trả lời như sau:
Well to be honest, in general I would say that I�m actually quite keen on animals, but in particular I would probably have to say that I�m really into domestic pets like dogs. I guess the reason why �.
Vậy từ would �ng d�ng trong c�u trả lời tr�n nghĩa l� g� vậy?
- Sau khi tra từ điển OALD t�i thấy nghĩa sau:
Would ~ say (that): used to give opinions that you are not certain about

C� phải would d�ng với nghĩa n�y ko c�c bạn nhưng t�i thấy đ�y l� c�u hỏi like m� d�ng not certain about th� trả lời l�m g� cho mất thời gian, người trả lời ko chắc m� lại trả lời?

You use would to say that someone was willing to do something. You use would not to indicate that they refused to do something.

They said they would give the police their full cooperation (=muốn)

She indicated that she would help her husband.(=muốn)

David would not accept this (=kh�ng muốn)

Ở đ�y m�nh n�n hiểu l� theo suy nghĩ của anh ta th� anh ta rất l� th�ch động vật n�i chung v� c�c con vật nu�i n�i ri�ng như ch� chẳng hạn. Nhưng đ�y chỉ l� đ�nh gi� của bản th�n anh ta về ch�nh m�nh th�i. Người th�n, bạn b� của anh ta c� thể nh�n theo hướng kh�c. C� thể với một số người, c�i c�ch m� anh tiếp cận với động vật th� chưa thể đủ để n�i rằng anh ta l� người y�u qu� động vật được.

N�i chung l� như thế n�y: � kiến của t�i về vấn đề đấy l� như thế (I would say that), c�n những người kh�c c� thể kh�ng cho l� như vậy như với t�i n� l� như vậy.

Theo m�nh biết, d�ng would ở đ�y kh�ng c� ở qu� khứ g� hết, m� chỉ n�i một c�ch lịch sự hơn th�i.

V� dụ:
I want you to take this medication (t�i y�u cầu �ng d�ng thuốc n�y): n�i như ra lệnh, kh�ng t�n trọng người đối diện.
N�n n�i l�:
I would like .... : n�i 1 c�ch lịch sự.

D�ng would trong trường hợp n�y để đưa ra � kiến chủ quan của bản th�n, tạo cảm gi�c kh�ng �p đặt l�n đối phương n�i chuyện.
