In vogue for some time là gì

Nếu không hiểu đúng, bạn sẽ dễ sử dụng sai các từ 'sometime', 'sometimes' và 'some time', gây hiểu nhầm cho người khác.

Sometime

- Trạng từ sometime đề cập đến một điểm thời gian không xác định. Nó không chỉ khoảng thời gian. 

Ví dụ: I’ll get around to finishing that book sometime. 

Trong câu trên, chúng ta không nói đến việc mất bao lâu để đọc xong cuốn sách (khoảng thời gian), mà nói đến khi việc đọc cuốn sách được hoàn thành (điểm thời gian). Với trường hợp này, bạn có thể thay thế sometime bằng someday hoặc at some point.

Một vài ví dụ khác: 

Give me a call sometime, and we’ll have coffee.

We’ll announce a release date sometime soon.

Tony needs to stop by the bank sometime today.

- Tính từ sometime được sử dụng như former, có nghĩa là cựu, trước đây, từng. Ví dụ: Albert, a sometime cab driver, now flies airplanes for a living.

Câu trên có nghĩa Albert từng là tài xế taxi, nay chuyển sang lái máy bay để kiếm sống. Một số người dùng tính từ sometime với nghĩa là đôi khi, tuy nhiên đây không phải cách sử dụng được mọi người chấp nhận. Hãy nhớ rằng, khi sử dụng sometime như tính từ, đừng thêm s vào cuối từ.

Some time

Khi some time được viết tách thành hai từ, nó chỉ một khoảng thời gian. Thực tế, some time có nghĩa là một khoảng thời gian dài. Ví dụ: For some time, humans have known that the world is round.

Trong câu trên, chúng ta nói tới trong một khoảng thời gian dài (vài thế kỷ), con người đã luôn nghĩ trái đất có hình tròn.

Ví dụ khác: It will take some time to finish the project today.

Câu này có nghĩa dự án được nhắc tới sẽ mất nhiều thời gian để hoàn thành.

Sometimes

Trạng từ sometimes có nghĩa là thi thoảng, đôi khi.

Ví dụ:

Sometimes I just don’t understand what that man is saying.

English grammar sometimes follows its own rules, and sometimes it doesn’t.

Everybody hurts sometimes.
