Penfolds koonunga hill shiraz 2023 review
Trent Mayers rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

My first experience with this typical Australian blend was back in the 1990s and I have not tasted it in a number of years. It still exemplifies why this blend works well with its full bodied, intense dark fruits wrapped in oak spice and vanilla. The tannins are high, but not at all aggressive. If you are looking for a crowd pleaser to pour at your Christmas gathering, pick up a few bottles. Bigger flavoured foods like red meats will bring out its best. 3.5 stars out of 5

Penfolds is Australia's most famous winery. It has been crafting premium quality wines for more than 175 years and is a true Icon of the wine world. It creates amazing red and white wines from premium vineyards, some of which are well over 100 years old. Driven by generations of visionaries and innovators, a family of Australian fine wines, each with a distinct character, quality and provenance. Named after a Barossa Valley vineyard, the Koonunga Hill range has a global reputation for value, lasting quality, and consistency. It promises freshness, richness, generosity of flavour, and balance.

Penfolds Koonunga Hill Shiraz Cabernet is very much a reflection of the Penfolds winemaking style and philosophy. Sourced from premium vineyards across South Australia, the wine is known for its full-flavoured style with excellent shiraz and cabernet fruit, firm yet well-rounded structure and balanced oak. Made as a traditional 'Australian blend', the shiraz component provides fleshy fruit flavour while cabernet provides a frame of fine grained tannins.

Tasting Notes

Lifted aromatics of red licorice, fennel root and black rose. On the palate, it's bright and textural with ripe blood plums, dark cherry and blackberries amplified by notes of vanilla bean creaminess and warm spice. — Winemaker's notes
