The silk canvas protective primer review năm 2024

I'll be the first to admit I've never really gotten the point of primer. I've understood what it's supposed to do in theory: It's the glue between your makeup and your face that's meant to keep everything locked in place and shine-free. But in reality it just never seemed like it made that much of a difference. I've long been a fan of Laura Mercier's Tinted Moisturizer (the finish it gives is perfect), and didn’t want to add yet another step to my daily makeup routine. So I've happily gone about getting ready without it for years.

Then Tatcha's The Silk Canvas Primer came along.

For anyone unfamiliar, Tatcha consistently gets reviews as glowing as Meghan Markle's skin. (Which is probably unsurprising, given her longtime friend and makeup artist Daniel Martin is an ambassador of the brand, and that the duchess herself has credited her radiance to the brand's Rice Enzyme Powder.) Everyone who's tried its new Dewy Cream moisturizer says it makes your skin look like a dewy dumpling. Its Water Cream sold out multiple times at Sephora. So even despite my skepticism, when The Silk Canvas Primer dropped, I felt the impulse to buy it (the fact that it looks like an adorable pink marshmallow cake also didn't hurt).

What makes this primer feel special from the get-go is that it comes with small disk for application. I’m convinced it’s to prevent people from diving in for a handful of the silky cream, which I was honestly tempted to do myself. Instead I behaved, resisted sticking my face in the tub and used the disk for portion control. It has a line on the back side that indicates how much of the product you should be using—about a dime-size dollop—which I promptly scooped up on the back of my hand.

The trick is to resist the urge to slather it all over your face. Martin suggests first starting with your T-zone (where most people need the most shine control) and working it out with your fingers. "You don't want to use it everywhere—only where you need it," he says. "You want your natural glow to come through.” Obviously, if you’re Markle, you have a lot of glow (they don’t call it the Markle Sparkle for nothing), but I have to agree with Martin. My favorite thing about the primer is how big the payoff is for so little product application.

Its ability to blur away pores is also immediate. I tried using it over a big pimple once, and although the primer didn’t completely conceal it, it definitely helped fade the redness. The same can be said for my dark eye circles—the primer helps dull them and brightens up my undereye area. It's also so lightweight it barely feels like anything is on. I'd almost forget if it weren't for every time I look in the mirror, I'm amazed by how bright and airbrushed my skin looks. It's like the Paris filter come to life.

After religiously applying The Silk Canvas Primer every day, I noticed that people started to compliment me more and more on my “natural glow” and “perfect skin.” And though I’m lucky to have never had problematic skin, I’m always quick to point out the look isn’t completely natural and that primer really isn't bullshit. Well, at least Tatcha’s isn't.

Helly guys I think if you have been following me on instagram you would know that I have been a fan of Tatcha for ages. I love the packaging, the scent, the formulas. Links below. This blog will be on their 2 primer products.

The brand launched the Silk Canvas balm version first, and I immediately bought that for myself. Lately they just launched a thinner version, the Liquid Silk Canvas, and I was lucky enough to receive a PR from them. So here are my reviews of both formulas.

Tatcha The Silk Canvas & The Liquid Silk Canvas

First starting with the original, the Silk Canvas.

Tatcha The Silk Canvas

Here’s the brand’s description: The Canvas Filter Finish Protective Primer

Velvety priming balm of pressed silk smooths and makes makeup last longer while keeping it out of skin, helping to minimize clogged pores and breakouts.

This multi-tasking skin-protecting, makeup-perfecting primer for face, eyes and lips:

  • Blurs: Silk extracts feel nourishing on skin and instantly diminish the look of pores, fines lines and imperfections for the perfect canvas before makeup.
  • Primes: Silk powder makes makeup glide on more evenly and last longer, minimizing excess shine with a soft focus finish.
  • Protects: Protective barrier derived from botanicals acts as a barrier between makeup and skin, helping to minimize clogged pores that can lead to breakouts. Anti-pollution natural active ingredients fight immediate attack from environmental stressors and help support the skin's barrier function to act against future attack, visibly reducing the appearance of wrinkles and dullness.
  • Enhances: Pink and gold pearl helps even skin tone for a healthy look.
  • Anti-aging: Hadasei-3™, a trinity of Japanese superfoods, green tea, rice and algae, visibly restores youthful radiance.

Glide the spatula lightly across the top of balm. Dot with fingertips and massage into skin. A little goes a long way. Use a rice-sized amount for the whole face.

Can be used alone or with makeup. Apply after SPF, before any makeup. Suitable for use on face, eye and lips. Replace the lid tightly after each use.

Tatcha The Silk Canvas

They really mean it when they said little goes a long way. The first time I used it, I thought I was already using a small amount, and it was still too much. It spread easily, and didn’t feel too heavy on my skin.

I feel like this is a less silicony version of Benefit Porefessional. It felt more nourishing, and more like a face cream than Porefessional. It does set with a velvet finish like the description says. I think it would be good for mature skin or skin that needed more hydration. For me, it felt a little too heavy for humid weather, so I don’t really wear it on a daily basis, but I keep this for times when I needed something extra.

See? one small blot can cover the whole of my hand. It’s easier to spread than it looks.

And tada! Primed skin. You can clearly see from this photo that the back of my hand really looked flawless, and the lines on my hands are blurred.

Next, the Liquid Silk Canvas.

It feels like Tatcha has heard my opinion, and came out with a lighter version of the original balm version.

Tatcha Liquid Silk Canvas

This primer is a watered down version of the balm, but it is not at all that light (and I don’t mean this in a bad way). It is not watery at all, it still retains that rich/nourishing feel like the balm version. It actually sets and gave the same feel as the balm version, despite the watery feel at first.

It’s not thick or sticky, but feels like a watered down heavy cream. To me, you don’t need both versions, just choose one. The balm should be better for mature skin, and the liquid for normal skin.

Is Tatcha silk canvas primer silicone or water based?

This was the idea behind Tatcha's Silk Canvas, a primer that combines a smoothing silicone base with silk powder for a consistently flawless finish. The formula is distilled into two highly wearable textures, with the first being a weightless liquid that seamlessly blends into skin.

Is Tatcha primer good for skin?

Overall, I think the Liquid Silk Canvas primer is definitely worth the cost, especially if you're someone who has oiliness and big pores, and are looking for something to prep and pamper your skin before and underneath mid-to-full coverage foundation.

Is Tatcha primer pore clogging?

A: The Silk Canvas is formulated without ingredients that contribute to clogged pores. and has been tested to be Non-comedogenic.
